THE CALENDAR

"A merry heart doeth good like medicine..."
Proverbs 17:22

      I received an unexpected call from my daughter Peggy last evening.  I said, "I thought you weren't going to call untill the weekend.  What's up?"  Peggy exclaimed excitedly, "I just couldn't wait to tell you what happened to that daily calendar you sent me for Christmas.

      The calendar, By Barbara Johnson, is titled, Just When I Get My Act Together The Curtain Comes Down.  Peggy continued, "It has gotten my days off to such a good start every morning that I decided I should not keep all this joy to myself.  So today I took the calendar to work to share with the other gals in the laboratory.  I thought the best place to put it would be on Barb's desk.  She wasn't there just then so I set it on her desk and went about my work.  Before long I heard laughter... bubbling up and then dying down:  then more loud laughter.  I hastened to explain to Barb that my mother had sent the calendar because she thought I needed to start my days joyfully and I felt that I should share it, and everybody agreed.  I went back to work and pretty soon I heard more Laughter."

      Just then Barb appeared in the doorway and proclaimed loudly, "Peggy, your mother has given us joy!"  "I had to tell you...the picture of Barb standing in the doorway with a big smile on her face let me know I had done the right thing in bringing the calendar to work."

      The blessing of the shared joy spread like a pebble dropped in a pond.  God knew just what was needed to brighten the atmosphere since one girl in the lab was continually grousing at everyone.

      Sometimes a very small act of kindness can bring about an ocean of joy.  The Lord truly cares about the everyday details of our lives.  Praise God for His loving kindness!
