SECOND
COURIER TRIP
"I tell you, open your
eyes and look at the fields!
They are ripe for harvest." John 4:35b
After returning from my first
trip to China, I wanted to encourage others to bring
Bibles to the believers in China. The Christian
population at that time had exploded to over 50
million believers. Their cry was "Send us more
Bibles."
I wanted to help so I borrowed
a copy of the film showing the first team of
ordinary Christians form Lancaster, California
Vineyard Church who became Bible Couriers.
Armed with a copy of the
Here Am I, Send Me film, I set out on a tour of
various churches and Bible study groups in Northern
and Southern California, hoping to recruit couriers
to go on this exciting and meaningful adventure.
I never heard whether anyone
answered the call to go after my tour, but I prayed
about making another trip myself. Soon after my
prayers, I received a notice from Love China
Ministries announcing a scheduled summer trip.
After consulting with R.J., who agreed that I could
go if I had the money, I sent off my application. I
never did figure out how our budget stretched to
cover my expenses. God must have worked a
miracle--He does things like that, I've discovered!
So, once again, I spent a
weekend at the training ranch, this time with a new
group of Christians from different parts of America.
I would like to report the
highlights of this trip, which proved to be very
rewarding. The first highlight occurred at
Beijing. When I think about going through
customs I am awe-struck at God's mighty deeds! He
keeps on performing miracles!
There were just six of us from
the States on this team. When we arrived in Hong
Kong, we were joined by a precious young man named
Peter from Ireland. We spent some time seeing the
sights around Hong Kong and the seven of us caught a
flight to Beijing.
At the airport, I recalled my
frightening experience the last time I had been in
there, and the panic I felt thinking I was lost and
all alone in China. God had taken care of me then
and I knew He would be with me this time, too.
So I bravely approached the
customs agent with my papers held up for inspection.
I was not at all surprised when he seemed to look
right through me as though I wasn't even there.
Faith, one of the other ladies in our group who was
following me, was ignored also. She waved her
papers in front of his nose and he didn't blink and
eye! As we walked on through, I had to laugh
because Faith was indignant over the agent totally
ignoring her.
I knew God had blinded his eyes
so we would not be stopped. To experience God's
miracles again and again was building my trust. He
knew I needed reassurance that I can trust Him with
my life in every situation.
How thankful we were when our
luggage went through the x-ray machine without a
search. Our Bibles were safe! I breathed a prayer
of thanksgiving to God.
I rejoiced silently as we
continued on with our mission in Beijing. |
