ANSWER
"In the day of my trouble I will call
to You, for You will
answer me..." Psalm 86:7
The years of taking care of
R.J., his body ravaged by Parkinson's disease, had
left me run down physically and emotionally. One
morning several months after R.J. went home to be
with the Lord, I was lying in bed feeling sick and
too weak to get out of bed. I just didn't know what
to do. In my despair I cried, "God, if you wanted
to, You could set a hot cup of tea on my bedside
table. After all, You did send ravens to feed
Elijah when he was weak and hungry." A hot cup of
tea did not appear on my bedside table, so I said,
"Well, at least You could send an angel to help me."
Just at that moment the phone
rang. A friendly voice said, "Lenore, this is
Alice. The Lord impressed upon me to come over and
see you at once. I'll be there as soon as I can."
Alice, who is a dear friend, arrived and took one
look at me and knew I was very sick. "Let me help
you to my car and I'll drive you to the hospital."
After examination and x-rays,
it was determined I had pneumonia so I was admitted.
When I was settled in the hospital bed and hooked
up to an IV feeding tube, I told Alice about my
prayer to God. I said, "I was really surprised at
how soon God answered my desperate prayer. He
knew I needed help right away and had you call me.
Doesn't that tell you God cares? I'm so thankful
you followed the leading of the Lord. Thank you,
Alice. You are that angel God sent to help me."
Alice smiled and said, "I'm
glad I listened to the Lord and was able to help
you. God is so good."
God is faithful to His word.
He may not answer our prayers the way we want Him
to, or necessarily at the time we think He should.
But you can be sure He listens to our prayers. He
is concerned about our needs even though it does not
appear that way at times.
I am thankful that God was
listening to my urgent prayers that morning. How
grateful I am that Alice responded when he told her
to call me. |
