LEARNING TO SOAR

by Lenore Moss

THEY'RE REAL

"Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve
those who will inherit salvation?" Hebrews 1:14

While attending a Women's Aglow Bible study a few months after committing my life to Jesus Christ, a fascinating incident happened, much to my surprise.  All the ladies were gathered in a circle to close the study in prayer.  One of the ladies began to pray.  As I stood there with my eyes closed, my attention was drawn to a brightness appearing over our heads.   Upon closer examination I saw an angel with fluttering wings hovering above us.

Just at that moment, the lady who was praying said, "There is an angel with us here."  My heart leaped with joy at her announcement because I was witnessing this in the spirit realm!  As the lady was bringing her prayer to a close, the angel flew up near the ceiling, and, after glancing back at me, disappeared.  I left the Bible study in a state of elation and wonder.

For a whole week I pondered this phenomenon.  I remembered hearing someone say that God assigns guardian angels to watch over children when they are born, but I didn't believe it.  While I was growing up at the orphanage, I certainly saw no evidence that any guardian angel was watching over me.  No way!

I guess maybe God had to give me a vision of a real angel to break down my years of doubt and unbelief.  Whatever the reason, the fact remains, I saw an angel at the Bible study verified by the words of one of the ladies.

Later on, as I studied further into the Bible, I found many Scriptures in the Old Testament, going all the way back to Genesis, referring to angels appearing and ministering to people.  Likewise, in the New Testament, from Matthew to Revelation, angels have appeared at God's direction.  They are God's ministering spirits sent out on assignment.

My doubt disappeared that memorable day.  What a loving God!  I never cease to be amazed as I observe the various ways God uses to bring us to an understanding of His truths.  I suppose I am one of those people who needs more than words to get the point;  apparently I need pictures, also.  Well, whatever method God chooses is fine with me, just so I keep learning and drawing closer to Him.  That is the goal of my life.

I wrote the following poem expressing my excitement and delight over the appearance of the angel at our Bible study class:

                        AN ANGEL OF THE LORD

At our wonderful Bible class last week
Where the word of the Lord we came to seek
An angel of the Lord came and hovered there
Right in the middle or our circle of prayer!

I gasped at the sight of his garment of white
The brilliance of his robe was a beautiful sight!
Just at that moment a lady said in her prayer
She knew an angel of the Lord was with us there!

Then high up over our heads he flew
And hovered a moment, then out of view
This vision stayed with me all day long
I wanted to sing to the Lord a joyful song!

This vision was a clear as ever could be
How blessed am I that God let me see
Right in the middle of our circle of prayer
An angel of the Lord was hovering there!
